LOCATION: SE Portland
STYLE: Craftsman bathroom addition
CONTRACTOR: Whiskey Hill Home Remodeling
MY ROLE: Layout design, cabinet design, fixture & finish selections.
HOMEOWNER REQUESTS: The client wanted blue saturation in this low-ceiling basement bathroom addition. The challenge was to bring in the blue without it feeling too dark, or feeling like the ceiling was right on top of you. The client also wanted to incorporate an infrared sauna for relaxation and health benefits, which guided the layout and size of the space. The overall goal was to design the bathroom to feel like it was a natural extension of the original home, which has a mixture of styles from 1950’s era construction.
THE CONCLUSION: A mixture of reclaimed wood, deep blue Mexican-inspired ceramic, and faux brick tiles provides a warm backdrop for relaxation in an infrared sauna. The Blue Bird wallpaper unites the ceiling to the walls and blue tiles, and adds depth and whimsy to the space.
